Artist Statement

"A lifelong passion for the northern wilderness is the source of my inspiration. The desire to share my love and fascination for the Yukon leads me to a photographic quest for the beautiful moments the territory can display.

My photos are about the unique Yukon light. I prefer it low-angle and high contrast. I want to capture those fleeting and unforgettable moments that exalt the landscape. My goal is to create the most compelling photographs possible. My favorite images are often made during solitary treks in the mountains.

There are two convictions and searches underlying my art. The importance of understanding the place of man in the landscape and, of course, the necessity to protect what is left of the wilderness."

MAGIC MINUTES : Warm and beautiful light captured at dawn or dusk. It is the "Magic Minutes " light. This is my favorite subject. This is the reason why I can spend days, by myself, on mountain tops, break my knees on rocks, sleep in a tent with my stinky dog, be eaten by mosquitoes, freeze to death etc... This light is fleeting and, at best, it last a few minutes. Those rare and unrepeatable moments can lead to unique images.

B&W MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS : Black and white images of wilderness moments where shape and light were in harmony. Mountains are a favorite of Yukon landscape photography, for a good reason. B&W enhances their beautiful shapes. What is unique about those mountains, compared to other mountain ranges in the world, is that they are still wild.

LOST IN THE LANDSCAPE : Images of solitary silhouettes in the Yukon landscape. This gallery is in line with the Romantic Landscape. It is about the contemplation of the nature and the idea that, in Yukon, the Man is smaller.
